The Bunker Mill Bridge Rockin’ River concert series has come to a close for 2021.

After being forced to cancel an entire season of concerts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the non-profit Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge helped the concert series make a return to the bridge that crosses the English River southeast of Kalona. The season began in July with live music every Tuesday night with the final performance on September 28th. Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge Director Scott Allen shares why they continue to host concerts at this venue, “We love the bridge and the area and the history. David Bunker, the original Bunker Mill and the bridge and the whole area, was my great great grandfather. So it’s a very personal thing to me. All the rest of our group that has come together, we have worked hard and went through a lot to save this bridge and maintain it as a piece of history.”

Allen added that the concert series serves as one of the biggest fundraisers to help maintain the bridge and the surrounding area. He would like to thank the group’s board of directors, bands and everyone who came to attend for making the concert series possible and continuing to support the organization. While no official start date has been decided for next year’s series, they hope to kick it off in June of 2022.
