It is hard to come up with new superlatives to describe the machine that is Lance Sobaski. In short, the Washington cross country sensation won again. This time, 125 runners fell victim to the senior’s dominance on Saturday at a North Linn Invitational that featured 18 teams.
Being pushed by others has been a rarity for Sobaski lately, but the senior found himself even with a pair of runners for much of the race on Saturday. In the final half mile, he passed Marion’s Jedidiah Osgood to capture yet another meet title in 16:05. Osgood crossed the finish line four seconds later. That time by Sobaski broke his own school record and it helped the Demon boys to a seventh place finish with 180 points while Marion won it all with 47. Micah Rees cracked the top 10 in 10th (16:56), Drew Horak was 39th (18:12), Tyler Alderton 50th (18:27), and Homecoming King Quinn Wubbena was 80th (19:50).
The Washington girls continue to master the art of pack running and placed fifth out of 13 teams with 158 points compared to Solon’s 40. Quincy Griffis paced the team in 19th (21:09), Lauren Horak 27th (21:30), Isabella Lujan 33rd (21:43), Taylor Bartholomew 38th (21:50), and Kendall Hinrichsen 41st (22:03).
The Demons now prepare for the Southeast Conference meet on Thursday in Burlington.
