The Columbus Wildcat football team kept themselves alive in the playoff race in class A District five Friday with a dominant 35-16 win over North Cedar in CJ. The Wildcat offense was consistent, scoring in every frame of the contest while the Columbus defense slowed down the North Cedar attack. The Cats led 7-0 after one, 14-8 at half, 21-16 after three and then outscored North Cedar 14-0 in the final frame to pull away for the victory.
The Wildcat offense did not complete a pass in the game, but they didn’t need to as they averaged seven yards a carry on the ground en route to 284 rushing yards. Kaden Amigon was a big part of the action as the sophomore put up 237 yards and four touchdowns on 24 touches. Amigon, Triston Miller, Trenton Hoback and Logan Bright led the Columbus defensive effort with four tackles each. Amigon and Hoback each recovered a fumble in the win. The Wildcats now stand at 3-4 on the year, tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district with the Highland Huskies. Columbus travels to Alburnett on Friday while the Huskies will meet winless Pekin.
