The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls cross country teams are among the headliners at tonight’s River Valley Conference Championship meet hosted by the Anamosa Blue Raiders at the Iowa City Kickers Complex.
The Golden Hawk girls are attempting to win their fourth consecutive league crown. They scored their third championship in a row last year with a score of 24 points, beating second place Tipton by 50. The Mid-Prairie girls roll into today’s event ranked No. 1 in class 2A, holding the top spot in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches poll wire to wire to this point in the season. Mid-Prairie has the entire scoring portion of their starting lineup ranked in the top 25 in the state, led by defending RVC and state individual champion Danielle Hostetler at No. 1. She is followed by Sydney Yoder at No. 13 who was last year’s individual conference runner up, Phoebe Shetler No. 14, Jaden Yoder No. 18 and Mitzi Evans No. 25. Teams looking to challenge the Hawks tonight include No. 4 in 2A Tipton and No. 6 in 1A Iowa City Regina.
The Mid-Prairie boys finished third at the RVC Championships last year, behind team champion Monticello. The Golden Hawks come into tonight ranked No. 4 in class 2A. Thaddeus Shetler leads the way for the Hawks ranked No. 6 individually in class 2A. Teams in contention tonight with the Golden Hawks include No. 2 in class 2A Tipton, No. 12 in class 2A Monticello, No. 19 in class 2A Anamosa, No. 7 in class 1A Bellevue and No. 12 in class 1A Iowa City Regina. The event has a total 28 teams, nine of them ranked and 18 ranked individuals. Action starts tonight at 4:30 and continues into the evening in Iowa City.
