The River Valley Conference volleyball tournament returns tonight as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks travel to Monticello for the second time in a week to open pool play. Mid-Prairie enters action with a 14-11 overall record after going 2-3 over the weekend at the Clear Creek Amana tournament, scoring wins over Iowa Valley and No. 15 in 3A Union La Porte City, but falling to No. 2 in 4A North Scott, No. 11 in 4A Clear Creek Amana and Central DeWitt. Mid-Prairie is 4-4 this year in River Valley play. For the season, Mid-Prairie is led by junior Ella Groenewold with 181 kills sixth most in the RVC, junior Landry Pacha with 516 assists third highest conference total and freshman Dakota Mitchell with 384 digs second best in the RVC.

Monticello is the top seed in the pool, coming into play with a 15-7 overall mark and a north division best 7-1 record in conference play. The Panthers last match was a sweep of Mid-Prairie to celebrate senior night on their home floor Thursday. For the year the Panthers are led by Jayden Kuper with 178 kills, most in the RVC north, Mallory Steiner with 408 assists leader in the north, and Keziah McQuillen with 183 digs, fifth in the RVC. Monticello has not met the Regals this year.

Iowa City Regina is 16-9 this season overall and even with Mid-Prairie at 4-4 in conference play. The Regals played at the Washington tournament over the weekend, going undefeated with wins over Tri-County, Keota and WACO. On the season, Regina is led by 223 kills fourth most in the River Valley and 115 digs from Lily Simpson, Peyton Naeve has a team best 227 assists, that mark is seventh in the RVC. The Golden Hawks swept the Regals two weeks ago on pink out night at Tim Grady Gymnasium. The other pools around the RVC tonight include Cascade hosting Camanche, Tipton and West Branch, West Liberty hosting North Cedar, Durant and Northeast Goose Lake and Wilton hosting Anamosa and Bellevue. Action gets underway tonight at 5p.m. and continues into the evening across eastern Iowa.
