The City of Washington is holding its fall cleanup at the Yard Waste Center and Waste Water Treatment Plant this Saturday.

City residents must bring their identification or copy of their utility bill, and are asked to stay in their vehicle. They can dispose of general junk that can be put into cardboard boxes, and bulky furniture items like couches, mattresses, box springs, and recliners for free. Appliances require a $5 fee, and electronics are free except for tube televisions and tube computer monitors, which require a $15 fee. Lawn mowers and equipment must be gas and oil free for disposal.

The city will not accept household garbage and hazardous waste, hazardous materials including explosives, drugs, and materials soaked in volatile chemicals; tires and waste oil; construction materials; concrete, brick, and rock; and latex paint. The cleanup is scheduled for 7-11 a.m. Saturday. Cash or stickers will only be accepted onsite for appliances and televisions, and you can purchase stickers at city hall. Those who are unable to bring items like appliances or televisions to the site can schedule a pickup for an additional $5 fee per item. Residents must contact city hall at 319-653-6584 and have items ready for pickup at their curb today.
