Trying to make it two wins in a row is the goal tonight for the Washington Demon football team when they make a short drive to Fairfield for a class 3A, district five clash.

The Demons look for their first win streak of the year after improving to 2-5 with a 45-6 beatdown of Keokuk. Junior quarterback Ethan Patterson accounted for 338 yards of total offense and being responsible for six touchdowns. The team’s 232 rushing yards was a high water mark for the season and four different receivers reached pay dirt. The defense has surrendered 28 points a night, but last week held the Chiefs to just 123 yards of total offense.

Fairfield is hungry for their first win over Washington in 10 tries and they are much improved from recent years. The Trojans are 5-2 and still competing for a playoff spot despite losing to Solon 56-7 last week. Tate Allen has been a huge part of their success by completing 50% of his passes for 1,009 yards with 12 touchdowns to just three interceptions. Max Weaton is Allen’s main target with 34 receptions for 438 yards and eight scores.

Demon Head Coach Nick Ehret had a lot of praise for Allen. “He is a dual threat guy that has good receivers to spread the ball around. We have to be sound in our scheme and not let anyone behind us. I think we got some things figured out defensively in limiting big plays and it all starts up front. Last week we didn’t start very fast, but we will need to be ready to go from the start against Fairfield.”

The week eight showdown begins at 7:30 p.m. at Fairfield High School and listen to the live play-by-play on FM 106.1 KCII. Our coverage begins at 6 p.m. with the Football Friday Preview Show and we take over from Fairfield at 7 p.m.
