A local figure will soon be honored by a new amenity to be constructed at the Washington Wellness Park.
Washington Parks and Recreation Superintendent Nick Pacha recently informed the city council of a pavilion that will be added in memory of the late Washington Economic Development Group Director David Collins, who unexpectedly passed away in July of 2020. The Washington Rotary Club has been fundraising to cover most of the $30,000 price tag. Pacha has been working with the group on determining the location, and adding electricity and water to it, “It’s going to be a beautiful pavilion, it’ll be identical to the one at the Kirkwood facility with the same color scheme as the concession stand at the Wellness Park.”
Work is expected to begin on the pavilion in the next few weeks that will be centrally located for those using the baseball and softball fields, sand volleyball court, and soccer fields, located near the southwest corner of the parking lot. Greiner Buildings is the contractor, with the parks and maintenance and construction staff performing the dirt work and a small sidewalk leading from the trail to the structure. Pacha also recommended a $2,000 contribution from the park’s gift fund.
