Crew members of the U.S.S Riverside are reaching out to the community for help in making needed repairs to the ship.

The Riverside Area Community Club has started a GoFundMe page to rehabilitate the popular attraction and parade float. After 36 years of appearances at Trekfest, the ship and trailer are not fit for future voyages. The club is responsible for the upkeep for the U.S.S. Riverside and operations of the Trekfest celebration. With a goal of $50,000, Trekfest Director Kevin Meller explains why the club is putting so much money and effort into restoring the ship to mint condition, “It is very much a tourist attraction, people come and see it and take pictures with it. Riverside is known for having that there, people see it getting pulled down the street in the parade and they get excited to see it. It’s not something you see very often. So it’s just one of those things that we’re just hoping to fix and have it running for another 15-20 years without needing anything major.”

Meller adds that they hope to raise enough money to replace the trailer and buy new products to help the ship look even better. If not enough money is raised, the community club will simply make repairs where they can. If you would like to donate toward the project, visit here.
