The Mid-Prairie Middle School Athletic Director has been named the Southeast District Middle School Athletic Director of the Year.
The Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association announced on October 12th that Nathan Carlson was this year’s recipient. Carlson says that the district created his position as assistant principal and activities director three years ago as a way to help improve activities offered at the middle school. He gives credit to the school board for putting him in a position to succeed, “It’s really a district honor in that regard because they had the foresight to do this. Not many districts our size have the position that I am in and that’s what allows me to be successful and that was recognized.”
Since taking on the role, Carlson has recruited University of Iowa students to train to officiate middle school sporting events. Updates to the facilities during his tenure include new scorers tables, scoreboards, and team uniforms. Carlson says he hopes to continue to work with the community and bring in new coaches and officials to help grow the athletic program.
