An autumnal ritual is beginning for the Washington Maintenance and Construction Department today.
City employees are beginning leaf vacuum pickup in the northwest quadrant of Washington, moving in a counter-clockwise direction. The leaf vac program will continue until November 24th. Residents may place leaves in the terrace area between the sidewalk and the street. The city asks that you don’t place leaves in the street as this creates drainage and traffic hazards. Leaves and tree trimmings can also be dropped off at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Yard Waste Center which is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 7-10 a.m. until November 20th. Wednesday hours are extended to 7 p.m. on October 20 and 27 and November 3, 10, and 17. Questions and comments may be directed to the Maintenance and Construction Department at 319-653-2947.
