An area matchup in Winfield kicked off class 1A regional volleyball play on Monday when Winfield-Mt. Union advanced with a three set win over Highland.
The Wolves protected their home court with set scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-20 for their second win against Highland this year. Keely Malone led WMU with seven kills, 25 assists, and five blocks. Melina Oepping and Bradie Buffington recorded six kills, Keetyn Townsley had 13 digs, and Carlee Sloan was a perfect 15 of 15 serving with two aces.
WMU improves to 21-10 and advances to Wednesday’s quarterfinal bout at Wapello (26-10). The Arrows finished first in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division and won a pair of matches against the Wolves in the regular season. Highland concludes the fall 11-15 and they bid farewell to seven seniors in Mackinze Hora, Delaney Gerot, Jalynn Brown, Carson Mellinger, Grace Batcheller, Emma Soukup, and Madeline Peiffer.
