The Lone Tree Lady Lion volleyball team handled visiting English Valleys Monday in the opening round of the class 1A regional tournament. Lone Tree took the match by scores of 25-11, 15-25, 25-23 and 26-24. Riley Krueger led the Lions offense with 11 kills, Ella Buser had a team best 24 assists. Krueger, Buser and Alyssa Knock combined for 42 digs for the Lion defense. English Valleys ends their season at 5-22, with the victory Lone Tree stays alive in the 1A tournament, standing at 7-20 for the year. Lone Tree is back on the court tonight in Burlington to take on Notre Dame in the regional quarterfinals.
On the year, Lone Tree is led by Krueger with 103 kills, Buser with 217 assists and Knock with 233 digs. Burlington Notre Dame is the No. 1 ranked team in class 1A in this week’s final volleyball poll released by the Iowa Girls High School Athetlic Union. The Nikes are 32-8 this season. They had a bye through the opening round of the tourney. On the year, Notre Dame is led by Gabby Deery with 360 kills, Jenna Bentz with 794 assists and Ava Parkins with 297 digs. This is the first meeting between the two schools in 13 years. The winner of this match advances to the regional semifinals next week. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at Father Minnett Gym in Burlington.
