The Iowa High School boys and girls cross country state qualifying meets took place this week, with three teams and 25 individual runners from the KCII-listening area that made the grade.

Washington competed in the class 3A qualifier in Solon Wednesday, with Lance Sobaski and Micah Rees Rees qualifying for state. The number-one ranked Mid-Prairie girls team qualified at the class 2A competition in Williamsburg Thursday, on their way to earn their fifth straight state title. The Golden Hawk boys team also qualified for state, their second consecutive appearance, with their last championship in 2016. The Columbus team qualified for the second straight year during the class 1A competition in Iowa City, and for other individual runners Hillcrest Academy’s Leah Bontrager earned her fourth consecutive ticket to state and Winfield-Mt. Union’s Gabe Hemsworth will be making his first trip to the state competition in Fort Dodge Friday October 29th through Saturday October 30th. Listen to KCII for further coverage of the race.
