Round one is where the Highland football season came to a close on Friday when the Huskies opened the class A playoffs at Lynnville-Sully and the Hawks rose victorious 40-15.
The hosts got out to a quick start with a 13-0 lead after one and 33-0 advantage at the break. The Huskies got on the board with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth and head coach Scott Morel tells KCII Sports his team continued to fight. “We started to sustain blocks in the fourth and our running backs were hitting the holes hard. At halftime we told the guys how do we want to remember? Are we going to lay down or continue to fight and we chose to fight. Our goal was to win the second half and we did.”
The Hawks did a bulk of their damage on the ground with 328 rushing yards including Corder Noun Harder and Kyle Squires combining for 287 yards and four touchdowns. They move to 8-1 and will host North Tama (7-2) in the second round this week.
Highland closes the year 3-6.
