The Wellman-Scofield Public Library is causing a rumpus this Halloween.

Based on the children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are”, the library will be hosting a Halloween Wild Rumpus night. This Saturday residents are invited to the Parkside Activities Center in Wellman from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for a carnival-style celebration. Younger children will have the opportunity to take part in different crafts, a candy walk, mazes and an obstacle course. Activities for older kids will include an escape room and a virtual reality game. A dance floor with music and cutouts to take pictures with will be available to all participants. Library Director Erin Campbell explains why the library decided to host an event beyond the traditional trick-or-treating, “We just think with things being lifted with COVID, that having something where people can all come together and do something fun like this is so important. In Wellman, for a very long time, at our skating rink we had kind of a similar thing but it was mostly like crafts and different games you could play to win prizes. But this year they are not doing it so we kind of stepped in and we thought, ‘How could we do something to kind of make up for us not having that this year?’”

Cost for the event is free-will donation with all funds going towards the library expansion project. Campbell says that funding for the project came to halt when the pandemic began and now the library is renewing those efforts.
