Three KCII area teams remain alive in their respective classes of the Iowa High School Football Playoffs.

In class 2A, the 6-3 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks advanced last week by beating 4-4 Northeast Goose Lake 35-28 at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. The competition level ramps up for the Hawks this week as they go on the road to meet 8-1 and No. 3 ranked West Marshall in the second round of the 2A postseason. The Mustangs were a 42-0 winner over Centerville to open the playoffs last Friday. You can hear all of the action between the Golden Hawks and the Trojans Friday from State Center live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee Pregame show at 6:30 and Systems Unlimited kickoff at 7p.m.

In class 1A, the unbeaten Sigourney-Keota Cobras stayed that way by beating Durant for the second time this season, handling the Wildcats  34-8, thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter. The Cobras are ranked No. 3 this week in the latest 1A poll from the Iowa Associated Press. At 9-0, SK will take the field again this Friday at the Snake Pit, hosting No. 12 Waterloo Columbus in the second round of the 1A postseason. The Sailors are 7-2 after a first round win over Aplington-Parkersburg 27-13. The Cobras beat the Sailors in the 1A quarterfinals last year to advance to the UNI-Dome.

In 8-man, the unbeaten WACO Warriors survived an opening round scare last Friday from visiting Ed-Co 39-36 as Simeon Reichenbach drilled a game winning field goal in the final 10 seconds of the contest. At 9-0, the Warriors are ranked No. 5 in this week’s 8-man poll from the Iowa AP. They go on the road to face the Martensdale-St. Mary’s Blue Devils who are 7-2 this season after a first round win over BGM 74-52. You can hear all of the action Friday between WACO and MSM live on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee Pregame show at 6:30 and kickoff at 7p.m. from Blue Devil Stadium.
