Two highly touted football programs will duke it out at the Snake Pit tomorrow when Sigourney-Keota welcomes Waterloo Columbus Catholic for a second round class 1A playoff matchup in a rematch from last fall.

These two teams met up in Sigourney last year in an entertaining quarterfinal bout where S-K emerged victorious 35-32 to punch their ticket to the UNI-Dome. The Sailors return a handful of the same weapons from 2020 including dual-threat quarterback Carter Gallagher. The senior was responsible for three touchdowns in the last meeting and this year has completed 61% of his passes for 1,573 yards and 21 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He also leads the ground game with 628 rushing yards and nine more scores. Something has to give when he will go up against a Cobra defense that surrenders just 11 points a night. Columbus is 7-2 and they advanced to this round after defeating Aplington-Parkersburg 27-13 last week. S-K is a perfect 9-0 and utilized a big fourth quarter to get by Durant 34-8 in the first round. The final 12 minutes has been money time for the Cobras, as they have outscored their opponent 73-19 in the fourth this year. Cade Molyneux leads all of class 1A with 1,751 rushing yards and he has reached pay dirt 24 times.

The round of 16 clash begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Sigourney.
