One vehicle was totaled and a semi suffered minor damage in a collision south of Kalona Tuesday.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office states at about 3:10 p.m. Cecil Nejedly of Kalona was driving a 2008 Honda Civic and Matthew Raymond of Center Junction was also northbound driving a 2005 International Semi truck with a flat trailer on Highway 1 approaching the 140th Street intersection. Nejedly had slowed down to turn west onto 140th when Raymond looked down at something, and looked up to see the Civic and slammed on his brakes. Raymond attempted to swerve and miss the Civic and ended up striking the vehicle, pushing it into the southwest ditch causing it to roll. A passenger in the Civic was transported by Washington County Ambulance Service to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Raymond was cited for failure to stop within a safe and assured distance. Kalona Fire and QRS and Bulltown Towing also responded to the scene.
