The Iowa High School Track Coaches Association released their final set of rankings for the 2021 cross country season ahead of Saturday’s State meet in Fort Dodge and three KCII area schools are recognized in the team and individual rankings.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls have gone wire to wire this season in the top spot, checking in as No. 1 in 2A this week for the 10th time this year. The Hawks were champions of their state qualifier meet last week at Williamsburg advancing to the state meet in Fort Dodge for the eighth year in a row in search of their fifth consecutive team title. In the individual 2A poll, the Hawks have an unheard of six ranked runners led by conference, state qualifier, and defending class 2A individual champion Danielle Hostetler at No. 1. Joining Hostetler are Sydney Yoder at No. 6, Jaden Yoder No. 9, Mitzi Evans No. 13, Phoebe Shetler No. 26 and Abby Fleming No. 29.
The Mid-Prairie boys hold steady at No. 4 in class 2A after their runner-up finish at the Williamsburg state qualifier meet last week. With that performance the Golden Hawk boys are headed back to Fort Dodge as a team for the second straight year. Mid-Prairie has two ranked runners in their lineup with Thaddeus Shetler No. 22 and Chandler Hershberger No. 23.
The Columbus Wildcats are in the 1A poll again this week on the strength of their runner-up team finish at the Iowa City Kickers Complex at their state qualifier meet a week ago. The Cats are No. 15 as a team. Individually, Freddy Vergara appears in the 1A poll at No. 14.
The Washington Demons have Lance Sobaski in the 3A individual poll at No.8.
Representatives from Washington, Mid-Prairie, Columbus, Hillcrest Academy and Winfield-Mt. Union will be in action at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge for the state meet on Friday and Saturday. KCII will bring you hourly updates live on the air and online at KCIIradio.com.
