The City of Keota has received major help in funding the Keota Municipal Swimming Pool and Splash Pad project.

Announced on October 6th, the city was named the largest out of five recipients for a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant with $500,000. Keota City Council Member Keith Conrad shares the impact this grant has on the project, “It’s huge. I mean for the [Keota] Pool Advocates to get to this point, to show us that ‘Hey, we’re gonna go out and try raising the entire funding to do this project.’ To get them over the hump, what the Riverboat [Foundation] did for them was amazing. I mean it’s absolutely amazing for our community to see someone from outside that believes enough in that group and our community to give us a half-a-million dollar grant. That’s basically gonna put them pretty close to getting the pool, pool house done and probably well on the way to getting the majority of the work done on the splash pad.”

Estimated total cost for the project is $1.5 million for a new pool, bath house and splash pad. With grants from the Keokuk County Endowment, Wellmark and Riverboat foundations along with $800,000 raised in cash and pledges, funds raised total $1,345,000. Dan Flynn with the Keota Pool Advocates presented the city council with their funding plans during their regular meeting on October 18th. During the meeting, further discussion was held on the location of the pool being moved from Lagos Acres Golf Club to Wilson Memorial Park as well as the approval of One Design Engineering finalizing the pool design.
