Final preparations are underway for the fall production by the Mid-Prairie Drama Department.

Actors, stage crew and directors are in the last days of rehearsals for this weekend’s performances of “Meet Me in St. Louis.” The musical is based on the 1944 film starring Judy Garland. Mid-Prairie seniors Alex Burnham, who plays Mr. Smith, and Terra Richardson, who plays Tootie Smith, explain the story and discuss their favorite parts of the production, “It focuses on the Smith family. The father of the Smith family is Mr. Smith and then Tootie is the youngest Smith daughter. It mostly focuses on Ester Smith, the second eldest daughter, it focuses on her love life with John Truit and their daunting trip to New York. I get to sing a song called the drunk song. I think that’s pretty fun considering I’m six years old. I don’t know. I just like playing a child, I think it’s fun.” “I really like the song, ‘Day in New York,’ just because it’s so fun to sing. I struggled for a while to get it pinned down but when I did it was just so much fun because it has these big moving parts in it. You start lower, go up and then back down. Later on, the rest of the family is added in and they’re sort of arguing with me in a sing-song kind of way. I just find that really fun.”

Performances of “Meet Me in St. Louis” will be this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. where tickets will be sold at the door at $10 for adults and $5 for students. For more information on tickets and the performances, contact Nicole at 319-430-3074 or nslaubaugh@mphawks.org
