The lone quarterfinal football matchup in the state that features a pair of undefeated teams will be in Dike tonight when No.3 Sigourney-Keota travels north to face No. 5 Dike-New Hartford in a class 1A bout.
The bright lights are nothing new for either program, with the Cobras trying to capture a return trip to the dome and the Wolverines last making the state title game in 2018. Both offenses are full of firepower led by backs with the top two most all purpose yards in class 1A. Jerek Hall stands at 5’10’’ 160 pounds and has produced 1,962 total yards for the Wolverines to rank first in the state and the junior has found pay dirt 20 times on the ground. SK’s Cade Molyneux ranks second with 1,882 all purpose yards and has scored 24 times. Both backs lead their respective 10-0 teams and will have to be at their best to find any success against stingy defenses. DNH surrenders just 9.6 points a night this fall compared to the Cobras’ 10. The Wolverines have 22 takeaways including a state leading seven interceptions from Parker Adams. Hall has got some help offensively from quarterback Jacob Stockdale, who has 1,416 passing yards and 13 touchdowns with four of them to Devon Kollasch. Dike-New Hartford defeated Pella Christian 35-14 in the second round.
Sigourney-Keota defeated Columbus Catholic 18-7 last week with Colten Clarahan being responsible for every Cobra point including nailing the longest field goal in the state at 52 yards. The senior has 1,002 total yards with nine touchdowns and leads the defense with 35 tackles. Levi Crawford has totaled 608 yards and eight scores.
Head Coach Jared Jensen knows his boys will be up to the challenge. “Dike is a great ball club that is a perennial power. We are starting to get back to that point and it should be a good clash of two titans. We are going to prepare well and be ready to go. Time to lace up and may the best team win.”
The chance to advance to the dome gets started at 7 p.m. tonight in Dike.
