A Centerville man was arrested for operating while intoxicated after nearly causing a head-on collision in Washington County.
The criminal complaint states that about 2:42 p.m. Thursday, the Washington County Communications Center received a report of an eastbound black Chevy Trailblazer that was all over Highway 92 from the Keokuk County line. A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy observed the SUV near Ivy Avenue as it turned into a driveway. The driver exited the vehicle who was later identified as 58-year-old Todd Michael Carmichael. The deputy noted a strong odor of alcohol on Carmichael’s breath and person and he had slurred and mumbled speech.
A driver’s license check indicated it was suspended. Carmichael admitted to drinking six to seven beers, and failed four field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test registered a .147% blood alcohol content level. Carmichael was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail. He is charged with OWI – third offense, a class D felony, as he has two prior OWI convictions in the last 12 years. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
