A return trip to the dome was not in the cards for the Sigourney-Keota football team in 2021, as they traveled north to Dike-New Hartford on Friday and fell to the Wolverines 38-14 in a class 1A quarterfinal playoff matchup.

The Cobras got behind the eight ball early with the Wolverines capitalizing on big plays to hold a 14-0 lead after one. Trailing 17-0 late in the half, S-K got some momentum heading into break when Cade Molyneux recovered a fumble and a few plays later the senior got the road Cobras on the board with a three yard touchdown run. The Wolverines quickly put the clamps on the game by forcing a three and out after intermission and in return marched right down the field for a score. The tally was eventually 38-7 before the Cobras scored in the final minute by another rush from Molyneux. The senior running back closed his career toting the rock 24 times for 128 yards and the two endzone trips. Colten Clarahan was five of 10 through the air for 72 yards and two interceptions while adding 88 yards on the ground. Aidan Anderson hauled in two receptions for 40 yards. Evan Dawson had 7.5 tackles on the other side. S-K put up 294 yards of total offense compared to DNH’s 255, but lost the turnover margin 2-1.

Cobra Head Coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports this group was special. “The commitment of our guys in the offseason was second to none. I am so proud of the kids with their drive and willingness to get better everyday. It would have been easy to think that since we made the dome last year, it was going to come easier this year and not put the work in, but that was not the case. They worked their tails off every single day and put ourselves in a position to be successful.”

S-K closes the year 10-1, their second consecutive 10 win season. They will have to replace 13 seniors lost to graduation.
