Community members, students and staff gathered to honor veterans as a part of Mid-Prairie High School’s Veterans Day ceremony Thursday.
This year’s ceremony was arranged by the school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter and thel Student Leadership Team. The ceremony included performances from the high school band and choir, a speech from High School Principal Chuck Banks, introductions of veterans in attendance and a thank you video to conclude. Mid-Prairie Senior Tyler Helmuth shares his thoughts following the ceremony, “It feels great to get all these veterans in here. There’s quite a bit, I think more than the last year we did it. I think the kids really appreciate it and they like to see who are the local veterans in our community and that’s what they got to see today.”
It’s been nearly three years since the previous Mid-Prairie Veterans Day celebration. After having the last two canceled due to snow and the pandemic, the seniors were the only students in attendance that had seen the ceremony prior to this year. FCCLA Advisor Sarah O’Rourke says that she is very impressed with her students and the work they put into this event.
