The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks hosted the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves Saturday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in a Hall of Pride contest. Mid-Prairie took the matchup 63-38. The Hawks led wire to wire, up 10-5 after the first and 25-16 at the half. Mid-Prairie found separation with a 25-6 run that spanned portion of the second and third quarters and built a 46-26 lead going to the final frame. After the game, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about what stood out to him from the action. “In that run we got back to back to back stops and were able to score on the other end and build the lead quickly. I was pleased with how the guys took care of the basketball. Only six turnovers is great no matter what style of play, but the fact that we want to get out and run, it’s tremendous and that’s what you expect when you have four of your five starters who are veterans and have been through it all before. Carter Harmsen even through foul trouble still put up his numbers. Alex Bean hit a lot of shots. We had numbers sprinkled throughout the lineup and that’s what it’s going to have to be this to make opponents choose which weapons they are going to try to stop. Everyone contributed. This group just does a great job of competing and handling what they need to do.”

Mid-Prairie outrebounded the Wolves 38-28, won the turnover battle 15-6 including just one giveaway after halftime. The Hawks had a pair in double figures led by Alex Bean’s 19 points including four three point goals. Carter Harmsen added 16. Winfield-Mt. Union also had a duo in double figures with Cam Buffington posting a 13 point 11 rebound double double and Konner Wade scoring 10. The Mid-Prairie boys are back on the court tonight against Mount Pleasant in their home jamboree. Winfield-Mt. Union’s next action is also tonight in a jamboree at English Valleys that includes Lone Tree.
