It’s an all-KCII area matchup on the hardwood tonight in Winfield when Hillcrest Academy travels to meet the Lady Wolves in Southeast Iowa Superconference action. Hillcrest comes into the game with an 0-1 record after dropping their season opener Friday 37-31 to Tri-County despite 26 points from Esther Hughes. Hillcrest was hurt by 34 turnovers in the outing, suffered through an 18 minute drought from the floor during the middle quarters of the contest and were beaten by eight on the glass.
The Lady Wolves are 1-0 on the year after a 71-15 demolition of New London Friday that saw WMU hold a 39-10 lead at half and give up just one point in the fourth quarter. Four players got to double figures with Bradie Buffington putting up 17, Jobey Malone 13, Melina Oepping 12 and Keetyn Townsley 11. Winfield-Mt. Union dominated all stats with 35 total rebounds, 20 assists, and 18 steals. The Lady Wolves have won six of the last seven matchups in the series with Hillcrest and 17 of the last 21. The Ravens last win coming in 2018. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
