Residents in the Winfield community now have an option to receive and refill prescriptions that’s closer to home.

A Hy-Vee Pharmacy location recently opened at 107 North Locust Street, the 900-square-foot clinic pharmacy operates as a telepharmacy and provides patients with a direct line of communication to a pharmacist without having to leave the Winfield area. At the telepharmacy, a prescription is processed similarly to how it would be at a Hy-Vee retail pharmacy. A pharmacist verifies the prescription for accuracy, as well as reviews the prescription for appropriate dosing and safety. After the initial verification is given, a certified pharmacy technician may fill it at the telepharmacy followed by an additional verification by the pharmacist. Patients will have access to counseling via iPad and telephone technology. Services provided include automated prescription refill ordering, generics medication discount list and private medication consultation. The pharmacy also offers over-the-counter health and convenience-style items. Although it does not have a full-time pharmacist, it will have a pharmacist on site 16 hours per month. The Mount Pleasant Hy-Vee serves as the home store for the Winfield pharmacy location.

The pharmacy is open to patients Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
