Highland hosted a quadrangular meet to start up the wrestling season on Tuesday and Washington made it a clean sweep.
Washington is back to almost filling a full lineup and it showed with three wins over Iowa Valley 48-34, Highland 60-24, and HLV 60-16. It was pin city for the Demons with a contested match record of 13-8 and every win being by fall. Five grapplers won twice including Eddy Rodriguez at 106 lbs (fall :32, fall 1:25), Jude Carter at 132 lbs (fall 3:10, fall 1:39), Lane Schrock at 138 lbs (fall 4:41, fall 1:08), Logan Frazer at 195 lbs (fall 1:10, fall :30), and Curtis Stender at 220 lbs (fall 5:48, fall 3:20). Other contested match winners included Aaron Boone at 113 lbs (fall 1:01), Jack Kleese at 126 lbs (fall 1:08), and Chase Greiner at 160 lbs (fall 2:45)
In addition to falling to the Demons, Highland lost to Iowa Valley 66-17, but defeated HLV 42-24. The Huskies went 9-12 in contested matches with Carlos Valenzuela sweeping his three opponents by an 18-2 technical fall and pins in 1:05 and 29 seconds. Easton Schlabaugh won by a pair of falls at 120 lbs (:38, 1:39) and Jacob Hill won both of his junior varsity matches at 160 lbs (fall :49, fall 1:05). Jack Peiffer won at 132 lbs (3:12) and Mackenzie McFarland pinned her opponent at 182 lbs (1:56).
Washington starts the year 3-0 and Highland is 1-2.
