The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team opened the season Tuesday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman, hosting a quadrangular with Eddyville-Blakesburg, English Valleys and Wapello. The Hawks dual win came 66-18 over the EV Bears. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches in the dual from Mose Yoder at 113lbs by fall over Dominic Garringer in 1:05, Landry Gingerich at 132lbs by fall over Caleb Garringer in 1:28, Andrew Kaufman at 138lbs over Nevaeh Briggs by fall in 1:21, Manny Watts at 160lbs over Benjamin Coffman by fall in 5:21 and Cael Garvey at 220lbs over Dillon Kapple by fall in 1:50.
The Hawks were beaten by Wapello 51-27. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Manny Watts at 160lbs by 6-5 decision over Garen Wilkerson, Kaden Meader at 170lbs by fall in 34 seconds over Zaidian Davis and Cael Garvey at 220lbs by 54 second pin over Jacob Miller
Eddyville-Blakesburg beat the Golden Hawks 60-30 in the night cap. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Terry Bordenave at 220lbs over Clayton Young with a fall in 3:53. The Hawks take their 1-2 record into their River Valley Conference opener Thursday, when they entertain Tipton, West Branch and visiting New London.
