The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team performed in front of the home crowd Thursday for the second time this week when they hosted a quadrangular meet with Tipton, West Branch and New London.

The Hawks opened the night falling in a tight dual with the Tipton Tigers 42-39. In that dual, the Hawks got wins in conteted matches from Mose Yoder at 113lbs by fall, Evan Phillips at 152lbs by fall, Jarron Thomas at 182lbs by 6-4 decision and Brodey Neal at 285lbs by fall.

The second matchup of the night was even tighter than the first with Mid-Prairie beating West Branch 40-39 on criteria. The Hawks got wins in contested matches from Kaden Meader at 170lbs by fall, Cael Garvey at 220lbs by 4-0 decision and Neal at 285lbs by fall.

The Golden Hawks closed the night with a win over No. 7 in class 1A New London by a 48-29 count. The Hawks got wins in contested matches against the Tigers from Yoder at 113lbs by fall, Collin O’Rourke at 126lbs by fall, and Andrew Kaufman at 138lbs by fall. After the meet, Golden Hawks Cael Garvey and Brodey Neal talked about their unbeaten nights.

Garvey said, “I think something that sounds out about the West Branch match is probably how hard it was fought between me and that guy. I’m kind of a littler 220lber right now and I think he’s up at the top side of it. I tried to keep my composure and tried to keep staying in the middle of the mat. He came out swinging so I kept pushing him and he just kept backing up, so I kept pushing him around the circle. He just kept getting more and more mad so I just went from there I guess. It was fun.”

Neal said, “I went in there with the mindset that every match counts. One thing after another, just keep hitting what you’re hitting. Do what you want and try to pin them. I hand fought and tried a normal snap down and next thing I know I threw him. I didn’t know what the team score was at the time. I  just went in there and wrestled my hardest. It was really crazy tonight, lot of fans here to watch us, crazy cheering. When I’m on the mat I just block it out and wrestle.”

After a busy start to the season this week, the Golden Hawks have a 3-3 dual record as they prepare for the Jeremy Fulk Classic at New London Saturday.
