The Wellman Chamber of Commerce is reviving an almost-forgotten tradition to liven residents’ spirits this holiday season.
The Wellman Chamber is bringing back “Light the Night” on Friday, December 17th. Chamber Director Heather Trimpe shares why they chose to renew this event “A couple of members in the group and myself want to give the magic of the season to the kids in the community, actually all of the people in the community. We want to be able to come together as a group and have a place where we can celebrate something as simple as having cookies and hot cocoa and lighting a tree. And just driving around our town and seeing how much the Christmas spirit is there.”
Residents are welcome to the downtown area at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting beginning at 6. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available for all attendees. Businesses and residents are encouraged to join in the holiday festivities by decorating their home or business with holiday lights. Trimpe asks that all lights be turned on before the event to give everyone a chance to drive through a luminous community. The chamber will be voting on the best decorated residential property on the night of the event with a prize of $100 in gift cards for local businesses.
