S-K Second, Col/WMU Fourth to Lead Area Schools at Willard Howell Invite

The 57th annual Willard Howell Invitational took place in Wapello over the weekend and three area wrestling teams hit the mat. 

Sigourney-Keota showed off their depth by finishing runner-up with 148 points. Wilton won the 12-team tournament with 192. Four grapplers took home the gold including Cade Molyneux at 160 lbs, Jack Clarahan at 170 lbs, Aidan Schuster at 182 lbs, and Conner Reed at 220 lbs. Molyneux pinned all three of his opponents in a combined 5:25, Jack Clarahan had a pair of falls in 4:53 and a 6-5 decision in the championship, Schuster recorded pins in his two matches that spanned 7:06, and Reed had three pins in 7:04. Garisin Hynick placed second at 152 lbs and Austin Gorsh was third at 113 lbs. 

Columbus Community/Winfield-Mt. Union nabbed fourth place with 119 points. Lane Scorpil stood on top of 120 lbs with a pin in 5:57 and a 10-2 major decision. Ty Scorpil was second at 113 lbs, and third place finishers included Lane Genkinger at 160 lbs, Ethan Palmer at 195 lbs, and Kai Malone at 220 lbs.  

Highland only had a couple grapplers compete and placed 12th with 17 points. Carlos Valenzuela finished the day third at 132 lbs by going 3-1 including having a pair of pins in a combined 5:23.
