A trip west on highway 92 is in store for the Washington basketball teams tonight when they gear up for a non-conference doubleheader with Pella.

The Demon boys followed a win last week against Fairfield with a 72-31 beatdown of Centerville last night and they improved to 2-0. Ethan Patterson led the group with 28 points and Kasen Bailey added 18. They will need to be at their best against the defending state champion Dutch. Pella sits at 2-0 and most recently won a thriller against Indianola 63-60. They return three of their top four leading scorers including Karl Miller, who is already averaging 21 points a night. The Dutch won last winter’s meeting 87-55.

The Washington girls sit at 0-3 after last night’s 54-33 loss to Centerville. The Dutch are 1-2 and Kennedy Van Vark is their main weapon with 13.7 points a game. The green and white won last year’s outing 58-12.

The doubleheader can be heard on FM 106.1 KCII with the girls game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the boys to follow in Pella.
