The first meeting of the winter between rivals Lone Tree and Highland saw both schools go home with a win in the Monday doubleheader.
The girls’ game was a methodical 51-34 win for the road Huskies in large part by outscoring the Lions 31-18 in the second half. Abbi Stransky collected a double-double for Highland with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kasey Chown led the home squad with 13 points and eight boards. The Huskies followed this win with a 54-37 loss to Mediapolis the next night to fall to 2-3 overall. Stransky put up 13 points in the defeat. Lone Tree also had a back-to-back where they couldn’t get anything going against Winfield-Mt. Union losing 75-11 and they now sit at 2-3.
Lone Tree returned the favor in the nightcap with the Lion boys winning the fourth quarter 17-8 to triumph 45-36 against the Huskies. Cade Patterson finished with 17 points and was a force defensively with seven blocks. Cade Shield managed 13 points. Highland’s Trevor McFarland tallied 13 points and Chase Schultz had 12. The Lions followed with a loss to WMU 64-34 and they are now 1-3. Highland is 0-3 after losing to Mediapolis 41-29 on Tuesday.
