The Hillcrest Academy Ravens welcome the Columbus Wildcats to Kalona Thursday for a Superconference basketball double dip. The Hillcrest boys are 2-1 on the season after a blowout win in Letts over L-M 62-35 behind 18 points from Luke Schrock. On the year, the Ravens are scoring 49 points per game, giving up 43. They shoot 66% from the floor, 53% from three point land and 66% at the line. Their field goal and three point marks lead the state in 1A. They pull in 15 rebounds, dish out eight assists, grab four steals and commit 10 turnovers. Individually, the Ravens are led by this week’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Grant Bender at 15 points and four rebounds per game. Noah Miller leads the guards with two assists per night.
Columbus is 1-2 this year. They were beaten by WACO Tuesday 78-29. For the year, Columbus scores 34 points per game and gives up 62. They shoot 30% from the floor 23% from three point range and 55% at the line, pulling in 17 rebounds, dishing out four assists, grabbing eight steals and committing 17 turnovers. Individually, the Wildcats are led by Grant Watson at 21 points per game. He’s the teams leading rebounder with six per night. Timothy Hills leads the ‘Cats guards with three steals and two assists per night. Hillcrest has won 25 straight in the series.
The Raven girls come into the matchup with an 0-5 record after a 60-31 loss at Louisa-Muscatine Tuesday. Columbus is 1-5 on the year, their lone win over New London, their last game a loss Tuesday to WACO 55-38. Sera Vela had 14 points and Lily Coil 10. On the year, they are scoring 27 a game, giving up 53, shooting 24% from the floor, 10% from three point range and 47% at the line. They average 24 rebounds, five assists, 10 steals and 23 turnovers per game. Hillcrest has won three of the last four in the series.
