The Winfield-Mt. Union boys and girls basketball teams both came up winners on Tuesday when they hosted Lone Tree in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The boys game finished in favor of the Wolves 64-34. WMU led 18-12 after one quarter and then turned things on with a 38-12 run that spanned the second and third quarters to take a 56-24 lead into the final frame. Abram Edwards led the Wolves on the scorecard with 19 points, Cam Buffington posted a 15 point 11 rebound double double and Jake Edwards added 12. WMU is unbeaten at 4-0. Lone Tree falls to 1-3.
The girls contest was all Lady Wolves from start to finish in a 75-11 romp. The Wolves pitched a shut out in the first quarter, leading 23-0 after the opening eight minutes. The second quarter was more of the same, a 22-2 run that took things into the break with WMU on top 45-2. Out of half, the Lady Wolves finished the game on a 30-9 run. Four Wolves ended up in double figures led by Keetyn Townsley scoring 16 points. Keely Malone and Bradie Buffington each had 14 points and Melina Oepping had a 10 point 11 rebound double double. Overall the Wolves also won the rebounding battle by 31. Kasey Chown led Lone Tree with six points. WMU is now 6-0 as Lone Tree falls to 2-3.
