A Kalona man was arrested this week for forging a $800 check.
Court documents show a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of 8th Street in Kalona for someone reporting that 37-year-old Keith Adam Murray forged one of their checks. The victim received notice from her bank that the check to Murray overdrew her account. The victim shared that Murray was in the basement of the residence, and he came upstairs and met with the deputy in the kitchen. Murray initially stated he didn’t know anything about the check and doesn’t know how to write a check. The deputy then spoke with Murray privately where he eventually admitted to writing himself a check and forging the victim’s signature. The victim then requested that Murray be arrested. He faces charges of forgery, a class D felony, and third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
