A local business had several things to celebrate during an open house in Washington Friday.
The Washington Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Boxcar Treasure’s relocated store that opened this year at 110 South Iowa Avenue on the square. Co-owner Carol Riggan shared to those who attended that their two-floor store is filled with antiques, handcrafted goods, and more, though they’re still working to move their large inventory from their previous location at 307 East 5th Street, “But Washington has always been good to us, the businesses up around the square have open arms, and we have so many new people come and see us every day.”
The ribbon cutting was part of an open house to celebrate the business’ five-year anniversary, which coincidently shares co-owner Jodie Schimke’s birthday. Boxcar Treasures was started by Riggan on December 10, 2016, which later blossomed into opening other locations including their current stores in Ainsworth and Kalona.
