Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling will again take over Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman tonight when the Golden Hawk varsity girls and boys junior varsity teams host their home tournament. This is the first official event on the calendar for the girls. Members of the Mid-Prairie girls team this year include sophomore Gabby Robertson at 106lbs, junior Grace Conway at 126lbs, freshman Ashlee Farrier at 126lbs, senior Emil Harmston at 132lbs, senior Bronwyn Brenneman at 138lbs, junior Marissa Cline at 138lbs, sophomore Ellie Brenneman at 138lbs, senior Madison Kelly at 145lbs, senior Ashley Leuck at 145lbs, and junior Mia Garvey at 152lbs. Mid-Prairie senior Bronwyn Brenneman is ranked No. 10 in her weight class according to IAwrestle.com after a podium finish at last year’s girls state tournament in Coralville. Robertson and Kelly have already recorded wins against boys competition so far this year. Golden Hawk seniors Harmston, Brenneman and Kelly spoke with KCII Sports at the start of the season about what has them excited for the upcoming year and their goals. “I think the team goal is to get everyone to a point where they feel like they are improving. We’re all here for a reason. We’re trying to accomplish our goals while pushing each other to be the best that we can. We have talked casually about where we want to be. Growing the program. Trying to get as many girls out as we can.”
Joining Mid-Prairie at tonight’s meet are Clear Creek Amana, Durant, Muscatine, North Cedar, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Wapello and Washington. Along with their JV squad the Demons will bring sophomore Jillian Langstraat at 106lbs and Teegan Sulentich at 182lbs. Action starts at 4:30 and continues into the evening at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
