Area girls and boys junior varsity teams took over the mats Monday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman for the annual Mid-Prairie tournament. A total of 43 wrestlers from Washington, Mid-Prairie and Highland were included in the competition with more than 110 total athletes facing off.

The Demons and Golden Hawks each had six champions on the evening. Washington’s champs on the night included Teegan Sulentich winning her weight class with a 2-0 record. In the boys JV ranks Jack Kleese, Lane Schrock, Fredy Aguilar, Chase Greiner, and Colley Billingsly were all unbeaten champions with 3-0 marks. Nate Edmonds, Bryer Billingsly and Jude Carter were runners-up.

For the Golden Hawks, they crowned a pair of girls champs with Bronwyn Brenneman going 3-0 and Mia Garvey 2-0 en route to titles. Garvey spoke with KCII Sports after the meet about her night. “In the first match, I did a half, then I ran around the head and pinned her. The second match, she was on bottom, I was on top, I did a wing. I ran that over the head and finished it. I love wrestling here at home. I always have way more fans here and a lot of support from my family and it’s really awesome. This was great. I love winning.”

Mid-Prairie JV boys champions included Noah Freeman, Kaden Meader, Quinn Callahan, and Burke Berry, all 3-0. Gabby Robertson, Grace Conway, Marissa Cline, Madison Kelly, Collin O’Rourke, Garrett Hurst, Dom Shively and Jarron Thomas were all runners-up.

Highland had a pair of unbeaten girls champs on the night with Mackenzie McFarland going 3-0 and Maddie Peiffer 2-0.
