KCII is interrupting its normal broadcast day for a second time this holiday season to help area food pantries through its Day of Giving Radiothon.

As part of the 19th annual Caring Christmas Food Drive, KCII hosted its inaugural Day of Giving Radiothon on November 17th, which featured interviews with some of the drive’s participating businesses and food pantry organizers, and raised a total of $1,640. KCII General Manager Joe Nichols hopes they can exceed that number with tomorrow’s radiothon, and any donation can make a difference, “Although giving food is great we don’t know all of the direct needs of the individual food pantries. And most of the time if you give them direct money, that dollar will go further with their purchasing ability and how they’ve got things operating than what a dollar for us would do. So we want to give them the money because they’ll need things like milk or meat and things that have a very short shelf life so having the money there to purchase really helps.”

The Day of Giving Radiothon lasts from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow, with additional businesses and organizations taking to the airwaves to share their efforts in solving food insecurity locally. You can call into KCII to make a monetary donation, drop off a food or monetary donation at the Big Red Radio broadcasting live at the Washington Hy-Vee, or click on the Big Red Button at kciiradio.com.
