It was an area basketball doubleheader in Wayland on Saturday afternoon with WACO welcoming Keota in non-conference action and the home Warriors rolled to a sweep.
The Warrior girls rode a 31 point outing from Ellah Kissell to down the purple and gold 47-35. Up 29-20 at the break, WACO stretched the lead to 16 in the third and controlled it the rest of the way. Kissell made 13 of 37 shots including four triples and brought in six rebounds while creating six steals. Grace Coble was also in double figures with 11 and Emma Wagler hauled in eight boards. This win followed a 48-38 SEISC victory over Cardinal on Friday where Kissell put up 18 points. Coble managed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles were also at the end of a back-to-back and they defeated Tri-County 33-15 the night prior. Taylor Kindred posted 15 points, 13 boards, four steals, and three blocks. The team turned it over only eight times in the win. WACO now sits at 4-2 and Keota is 2-6.
The Warrior boys won ever quarter against the Eagles leading 30-20 at half and the advantage continued to grow en route to a 61-38 finish. Hunter Hughes led all scorers with 15 points for the blue and white while Cody Graber tallied 10 points. The Eagles’ Colten Clarahan recorded 14 and Sawyer Stout had 12. That was the third win in a row for WACO after beating Cardinal 66-60 on Friday including outscoring the Comets 19-14 in the fourth. Simeon Reichenbach had 16 points in that one, Colton Leichty 14, and Hunter Hughes 12. Keota hammered Tri-County the night prior by a 73-27 count. They were plus 23 in the rebounding department with Cole Kindred bringing in eight of them to go along with 14 points. Clarahan finished with 11 points and Evan Vittetoe had 10. WACO is now 4-1 and Keota is 4-3.
