The Highland FFA chapter is helping to bring the holiday spirit to families in need through their holiday food drive.
From now until December 20th, residents can participate in the food drive by dropping off food donations at the elementary or secondary school lobbies. Needed items include anything kid-friendly, cans of soup, macaroni and cheese, Spaghettios, canned or boxed pasta, fruit and vegetable cups, pudding, popcorn, fruit snacks and cereal. FFA member Maddie Peiffer explains why the chapter decided to host the food drive, “In the past, other organizations have done the food drive. But no one took the opportunity to do it this year, so the FFA decided that it would be a good opportunity for us to get involved. I just want to give back to the community. They give us so much. We just want to show them how much we care and to just help families out because you never know who is struggling and who might need it.”
All students and families signed up to receive donations will be given their bags during school the week of the 20th. Any leftover food will be distributed to the Highland backpack program and food pantries in Riverside and Ainsworth. Those who would like to receive food can contact school nurse Cindy Peiffer.
