Power outages and damage to buildings have been reported as a result of severe thunderstorms and high winds in southeast Iowa Wednesday night.
At about 8:09 p.m. a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Washington County and was allowed to expire at 9:15 p.m. At 8:08 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Hazleton to 8 miles southeast of Harper, moving east at 65 mph. Trained weather spotters measured a gust of 66 miles per hour at 8:30 p.m. at the Eastern Iowa Airport. Power is out in the city of Keota, and Vision Ag reported the roof was torn off of their building. Siding damage was also reported in the city of Brighton. Alliant Energy reports several outages in Washington County, including 975 customers out in Washington. Those who have received damage from the storm are advised to contact their county’s emergency management coordinator or dispatch center, as coordinators will be giving an initial damage estimate to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security by 7:30 a.m. Thursday for a possible disaster proclamation from Governor Reynolds.
