A Southeast Iowa Super Conference basketball doubleheader in Columbus Junction on Tuesday went the road teams way with Pekin sweeping the action against the Wildcats.
The Panther (1-6, 1-5) girls rode a 23-12 halftime lead all the way through to prevail 41-27. Columbus Community was led by Sera Vela with nine points, four assists, and four rebounds. Libby White collected six points and Lily Coil hauled in five rebounds.
The Wildcat boys also couldn’t get much going offensively against Pekin (2-4, 2-3) trailing 15-4 after one, 31-9 at the break, and a 57-22 final. Grant Watson managed five points and Oscar Alcala finished with five boards.
The Columbus girls drop to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the SEISC. The boys are now 1-4 and 1-3 in the league. Both squads face off with Highland tomorrow.
