It was all Sigourney in a basketball doubleheader at Tri-County High School on Tuesday with the Savages rolling to a South Iowa Cedar League sweep.
The girls rode the momentum from a win over Washington the night prior and opened up a 24-13 halftime lead against the Trojans (2-5) that continued to grow to a 52-29 win. Sigourney dominated the rebounding department by a 42-21 count. Josephine Moore continued her big week with a 20 point outing on nine of 13 made shots and the freshman collected 13 rebounds. Carly Goodwin was also in double figures with 17 points. The Savages improved to 3-4 overall.
The boys’ game was a bigger drubbing with Sigourney only giving up four points in the final three quarters and they dominated a 52-12 affair. They finished plus 20 rebounding and plus seven in the turnover margin. Five players managed at least six points led by Ethan Shifflett with 12. Isaac Bruns had nine and Bo Schmidt collected seven points, nine boards, six assists, and three steals. The Savages turned around and won their fourth straight last night with a 44-28 triumph over Louisa-Muscatine. The black and gold improve to 4-2 on the season.
The boys and girls get back on the court tonight in Montezuma.
