Savages Win Regina Invite, Crown Four Champs

The long list of accomplishments in the first half of the season for the Sigourney-Keota wrestling team grew over the weekend when they nabbed their first tournament championship by winning the Iowa City Regina Invitational. 

The Savages placed first in the 12-team tournament with 227 points and Regina came in second with 191. Four grapplers captured gold on the day including Reanah Utterback at 106 lbs (fall 3:16, 7-2 decision), Aidan Schuster at 182 lbs (fall 3:54, 5-4 decision), Cade Streigle at 195 lbs (fall :43, 12-9 decision), and Zach Smithart at 285 lbs (fall :31, fall 1:56, fall 1:33). Six others had podium finishes including second place recognition going to Reid Molyneux at 138 lbs, Cade Molyneux at 160 lbs, and Jack Clarahan at 170 lbs. 

WACO also turned some heads with a third place showing collecting 139 points. A trio of Warriors stood on top of the podium including Larz Smith at 138 lbs (fall 1:26, medical forfeit, 7-2 decision), Louden Huisenga at 145 lbs (fall 1:28, fall 3:06, 7-1 decision), and Jonah Clark at 220 lbs (fall :51, 22-5 TF, 13-3 MD). Gage Samo was runner-up at 106 lbs and Kris Boone was third at 182 lbs. 

A few WACO girls competed at Wilton the same day and all three grapplers placed. Grace Fort won the Female 22 class by pinning all three opponents in a combined 4:41, Bralyyn Wagler was second in the 25 class by going 1-1, and Heaven Steege was 1-2 at the 7 weight class to place third.
