A Washington woman was recently given a deferred judgment for a lesser charge out of Mahaska County.

Court records show that through a plea agreement 25-year-old Brittina Marie Gatewood was given a deferred judgment for operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor, and two counts of third degree burglary of a motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor, were dismissed. Gatewood must pay a $855 civil penalty and be placed on two years of informal probation. She must also pay $350 in pecuniary damages and Category B restitution.

Gatewood was originally charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, for a June 12th incident. Court documents show that law enforcement was conducting an investigation of a stolen vehicle when they were informed of two different vehicles being broken into. They were later notified that the Pella Police Department found the stolen vehicle which contained stolen items from the two cars that had been broken into. The owner of the vehicle said her keys were left in the car and it was unlocked while she was at work. The total dollar amount of stolen items was around $600.
